ABORTION 2

We often hear the following expression: “Personally, I am against abortion. But I would never impose those values on anyone else.”
It is often difficult for me to emphasize enough just how astonishing this statement actually is. What I often want to ask the people who say it is this: Why exactly are you against abortion?
The answer is usually the same, “I’m against abortion because I believe it takes the life of an innocent human being.” But think about this. If that personal belief is true (and if someone doesn’t think it’s true, then it’s obviously not their personal belief), then abortion is the greatest crime against humanity that has ever existed!
Would it have made any sense to say in Nazi Germany that we’re personally against the killing of innocent Jews, but we would never want to impose our beliefs on others?
Nonsense! Those who say this about abortion need to realize that their position is no less absurd. Either that or they must realize that they do not really believe what they say they believe.
