The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published a pastoral letter on marriage in November 2009 and have put more emphasis on this important Sacrament recently through the “foryourmarriage.org” website. We encourage all to view the “For Your Marriage” website and go to the USCCB website (www.usccb.org) to download, read and incorporate the Pastoral Letter into our daily lives.
It is especially exciting to announce that World Marriage Day 2010 will be on February 14 - Saint Valentine’s Day! We hope every parish will celebrate this day in simple or elaborate ways. Whatever is done will bring the significance of the Sacrament of Marriage to center stage for one important day and is most appreciated. Theme: The permanent theme adopted for the day is "Love One Another". Loving one another, is a daily decision, simple but challenging. Symbol: The symbol for World Marriage Day is two candle-like figures joined by a heart. The hope is that couples will be reminded of their calling as married couples to enlighten the world by being life-giving to one another.
World Marriage Day Prayer
"Father, as we prepare for World Marriage Day, we thank you for your tremendous gift of the sacrament of Matrimony. Help us to witness to its glory by a life of growing intimacy. Teach us the beauty of forgiveness so we may become more and more one in heart, mind and body. Strengthen our dialogue and help us become living signs of your love. Make us grow in love with our church so we may renew the Body of Christ. Make us a sign of unity in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and brother. Amen" - Fr. Bill Dilgen, S.M.M.
Apostolic Blessing
"In 1993, his Holiness, Pope John Paul II, imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day. World Marriage Day celebrations continue to grow and spread to more countries and faith expressions every year."
