Special Coverage of the Chrism Mass
Tune in on Tuesday, April 16th beginning at 10:00 a.m. as we bring you LIVE coverage of the Diocese of Youngstown Chrism Mass. Michael Roberts will be broadcasting from St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.
This beautiful liturgy is held each year during Holy Week, to bless the 3 different oils that will be used throughout the Diocese. Bishop George Murry will celebrate Mass and consecrate the oils.
The word Chrism comes from the Greek word literally meaning “an anointing,” also called myrrh, or holy anointing oil, or consecrated oil. At this Mass, oils are blessed and consecrated to be used in the sacramental life of the Church in this coming year of grace. In the Chrism Mass, the entire Diocesan Church gathers around the bishop to renew their identity as a priestly, prophetic and kingly people, signed with the Chrism of salvation. Ordained priests renew their commitment, and all are reminded of their baptismal call to holiness, service and faithful witness to Christ.
