Cardinal Burke will speak a month before the XIV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Family, to be held at the Vatican, October 4–25, 2015. The synod’s topic, “The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and the Contemporary World,” will encompass issues such as embracing broken families and divorced and remarried couples, the transmission of life in light of a declining birthrate, and pastoral care for those with homosexual tendencies.
A panel will join Cardinal Burke after his keynote to further discuss the draft document for the 2015 synod. Panelists include Father Sean O. Sheridan, TOR, president of Franciscan University of Steubenville and expert on canon law; Dr. Donald Asci, Dr. John Bergsma, Dr. Stephen Hildebrand, and Dr. Michael Sirilla, Franciscan University theology professors; Dr. Patrick Lee, Franciscan University bioethics professor; Mrs. Pia Crosby, Franciscan University MA theology student; and Dr. Peter Kwasniewski, professor of theology and philosophy, Wyoming Catholic College.
